Norwegian to end flights between Ireland and North America from 15 September 2019
On 13 August 2019, Norwegian Air International announced the suspension of all flights from Cork, Dublin and Shannon airports to airports in New York and Providence, Rhode Island in the USA and Hamilton near Toronto in Canada from 15 September 2019 and passengers who have booked flights with the airline departing on or after that date will not be flown as originally planned. Passengers affected by this announcement should contact Norwegian in relation to their booking.
The Commission for Aviation Regulation understands from discussing this matter with personnel from Norwegian that the airline intends to offer passengers the choice between a full refund or re-routing with the objective of ensuring that passengers arrive at airports in New York, Boston or Toronto the same day as originally planned. Re-routing will mainly be by way of alternative flights within the Norwegian network; for example, via connecting flights departing Dublin to Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm or London Gatwick and then onwards to North America. Passengers can expect to be contacted by Norwegian with details of their options regarding their flights but should be proactive.
Passengers are entitled to be offered a choice by Norwegian between either:
(a) — reimbursement within seven days of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
— a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
or
(b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity;
or
(c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.
Passengers advised of the cancellation of their original flight more than 14 days before the original time of departure, as in this case, are not entitled to compensation.
