Aircraft registration marks, pursuant to Articles 11(3) of Irish Aviation Authority (Nationality and Registration of Aircraft) Order, 2015, shall be those assigned by the Authority to the specific serial number of an aircraft and cannot be allocated to companies or individuals making an application to register.

Aircraft owners or operators applying for an Out of Sequence registration mark, must identify and provide the aircraft type and serial number of the aircraft concerned at time of application.  Reservation of a registration mark in no way confers ownership of the mark on the applicant.

Reservations for Out of Sequence registration marks, when assigned by the Authority to specific aircraft serial numbers, are for periods of six months or less, subject to a maximum period of twelve months and to such conditions as the Authority may require.  Requests to reserve an Out of Sequence registration mark must be made in writing along with the prescribed fee for reservation, currently €263 as per Schedule 1 of the Irish Aviation Authority (Fees) (No. 2) Order, S.I. No. 805 2007

Specific registration marks will not be issued, eg:  PAN, SOS, XXX, ETC, IAA etc.  The Authority no longer issues the letter Q in the registration mark.  A registration mark that may be considered embarrassing to any party may not be issued by the Authority.  At time of registration application, a fee, currently €700 per Out of Sequence registration mark is incurred in addition to any other fee payable under Schedule 1 of the Irish Aviation Authority (Fees) (No. 2) Order, S.I. No. 805 of 2007.
