1. Why do I need to do a training course to register as a drone operator?
As part of the registration process you will be required to contact a drone training organisation which will enable you to learn about the requirements and obligations for drone operations.
2. Why do I need to do a training course to become a remote pilot (drone pilot)?
To become a drone pilot you must first complete a course called ’UAS Proof of on-line Training’ this is available on the IAA MySRS platform. Completion of this training allows you to fly in the Open Subcategory A1 and A3. To fly in the Subcategory A2 or Specific Category you must complete further training to obtain an ‘UAS Remote Pilot Competency Certificate’ which is conducted by a drone training organisation.
3. I did a drone training course last year with a registered training organisation; do I need to do another?
Yes, because new European Regulation (EU) 2019/947 Unmanned Aircraft Systems is effective from 31st December 2020. It is likely the training you carried out did not take into account this new regulation and its requirements.
4. How will the drone training course take place during Covid-19?
Drone training organisations will organise training with respect to COVID-19 restrictions.
5. Do I have to do re-do test every two years? If so, why?
As an operator you will have to apply to continue with operations every two years by using the MySRS platform.
As a pilot you will have to renew your training every 5 years by using the MySRS platform.

The ‘UAS Proof of line Training’ takes about 15 minutes to complete using MySRS.
The ‘UAS Remote Pilot Competency Certificate’ is provided by a drone training organisation whom can advise on the time it takes to complete training.
