Rockets

Rockets may be launched in Irish controlled airspace but are subject to the conditions in the applicable legislation set out in the Irish Aviation Authority (Upper Airspace and Rockets) Order, 2023 (SI 25 of 2023) available on the IAA website here: Irish-Aviation-Authority-(upper-airspace-and-rockets)-order-2023

Small rocket and fireworks activity (recreational) may be exempt, as provided for in article 11 of the regulation due to their mass, the maximum height they will achieve and the specific location in relation to certain airspace.

Please check the Irish Aviation Authority (Upper Airspace and Rockets) Order, 2023 (SI 25 of 2023) for the exempted fireworks and small rockets that do not require a permission from the Irish Aviation Authority.

Otherwise, the operation of larger, more powerful rockets is subject to the written permission of the authority, and it is important that operators comply with all conditions of such permissions.

Regardless of scope, all rockets and fireworks must be operated in a manner that does not create a hazard to persons, property, or other aircraft.

Operators of all rockets and fireworks should also be aware that such devices may be mistaken for distress flares in certain areas, particularly coastal regions. If appropriate, local fire and rescue services should be made aware.
