Assistance from Tour Operators

Tour operators have a smaller role in implementing these laws as they are generally involved at the booking stage only. However they are obliged to make information regarding air carrier safety restrictions and size limitations available to you in respect of all flights which they sell – including flights booked as part of package holidays.

If the tour operator refuses your reservation on behalf of an air carrier, it must make reasonable efforts to propose an alternative to you. It should also explain the reason for the refusal and if you ask for this information in writing, it should be provided within 5 working days.

Where the tour operator accepts your reservation, it must notify the air carrier and the relevant airport management bodies (i.e. at the airport of departure, transit airport and the airport of arrival) of your specific needs at least 48hours before the flight or, for reservations made closer to the flight time, as soon as possible.
