IAA Chairman, Ms Rose Hynes has been informed by Diarmuid Ó Conghaile that he is resigning his role as IAA Aviation Regulator / CEO Designate with effect from 31.10.2022. He will take up a new opportunity in the European aviation sector.

Ms Hynes thanked Diarmuid for his enormous contribution towards the implementation of the Government’s Aviation Separation policy and wished him well in the future.

“This policy separates air navigation services and aviation regulation. It involves the establishment of a new air traffic management company, AirNav Ireland to manage air traffic control. The new IAA will be a new single independent aviation regulator, responsible for all aspects of civil aviation regulation in Ireland. It will include merging the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) with the aviation regulation functions of the IAA to create.”

Mr Ó Conghaile said it was a privilege to have a leadership role in the organisation at a time when the IAA was supporting the aviation sector through the disruption of the pandemic and building the new IAA and managing the ongoing regulation of the aviation sector.

“Throughout my time working with the IAA and the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR), I have been struck by the depth of expertise and experience and the great commitment from everyone to serving the aviation sector and its consumers. I am grateful for having spent this time with the IAA and CAR and for what I have personally learnt during the period.”

It is the IAA Board’s intention to seek the commencement of a selection process to appoint a successor as soon as possible.
