Waypoint: Safety Launched

05 Jun 2026

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) today announced the launch of Waypoint: Safety, a new safety promotion publication aimed at the entire Irish aviation community. Developed as part of the IAA’s State Safety Programme (SSP) and aligned with the State Plan for Aviation Safety (SPAS), Waypoint: Safety is intended to support and strengthen safety awareness across all sectors of the aviation industry. It serves as a practical expression of the IAA’s commitment to proactive safety intelligence, promotion and stakeholder engagement.

Waypoint: Safety brings together diverse operational insights – from regulatory developments and human factors to emerging risk areas – in a user-friendly format. The publication has been created with and for the aviation community, reflecting contributions from stakeholders across commercial air transport, general aviation, ground operations, unmanned aircraft systems (drones), and supporting organisations. This inclusive, cross-sector approach underlines that effective safety management requires collaboration across the entire industry.

Emphasising the theme of shared responsibility and continuous learning, Waypoint: Safety underscores that aviation safety is not achieved in isolation or silos, but through coordinated action and mutual trust throughout the system. By sharing knowledge, lessons learned, and encouraging open dialogue, the publication aims to contribute to the continuous improvement of safety performance across all parts of the aviation system.

In launching Waypoint: Safety, Barry Waldron, Manager Safety Intelligence and Safety Promotion at the IAA, said: “Aviation is built on collaboration, shared responsibility and continuous learning. Waypoint: Safety reflects that reality by bringing together operational insights – from regulatory developments and human factors to emerging risks – in an accessible way. It will help ensure we remain connected, informed and aligned in managing evolving safety challenges across all areas of aviation.”

The first edition of Waypoint: Safety is available now via the IAA website at www.iaa.ie/waypointsafety. The IAA encourages aviation professionals to read and engage with the publication, provide feedback, and contribute to future editions as part of Ireland’s shared commitment to aviation safety.
