The Latest News From the IAA

Irish Airports remain open.

08 May 2010

1345 - 8 May 2010:  Currently there are no restrictions applying in Irish Airports and this is likely to continue until at least 0600 hours local on Sunday 9th May 2010.

North Atlantic flights and flights to / from southern Europe are currently being impacted and this is likely to be the situation over the next 24 hours.

The volcanic ash cloud has now taken a crescent shape around Ireland and any change to the prevailing weather conditions could bring the concentrated ash back over the country. See Chart.

When Irish airspace is open, the airlines - including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, Cityjet, Aer Arann, or any other operators - decide whether their scheduled flights can go ahead. This is why passengers should always check their airline websites for up-to-date information. The IAA has no information about any individual flights.

The Irish Aviation Authority opens, or restricts, Irish-controlled airspace after reviewing projection charts provided by the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) and the Central Flow Management Unit (CFMU) at Eurocontrol.

Passengers planning to travel by air over the coming days are advised to regularly check their airline websites and the IAA website in advance of going to the airport.

A further update will be issued at 2030 hours local today.
