IAA Welcomes Safety Regulation Activities Review

22 Jun 2007

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) recently commissioned a review of its Safety Regulation activities. The review, which is now complete, was carried out by McGregor & Co. (New Zealand) and follows a similar fundamental review of the IAA's air navigation services that is currently being implemented.

The primary objective of the review is to provide a strategic plan for the years 2008 - 2013 that will take account of the changing regulatory environment. With the expansion of aviation worldwide and taking into account Ireland's obligations to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the creation in the European Union of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the IAA recognised the need to ensure it had a strategy and adequate resources to meet this changing and challenging environment.

McGregor & Co. presented their report to the board of the IAA at its meeting of 20 June. The Board have requested IAA management to analyse the findings and prepare an appropriate implementation plan. Speaking on behalf of the IAA, Chief Executive Eamonn Brennan said: "I very much welcome this report and look forward to meeting the challenges that it will present."
