So where should passengers send their claims for reimbursement?

May 7, 2010, 01:00 by Engine Support

Many passengers who suffered flight disruptions as a result of the volcanic ash cloud, and who consequently incurred legitimate expenses under EC Regulation 261/ 2004, are now seeking to claim reimbursement of those expenses from their air carriers.

Passengers are asked to be mindful that air carriers will have different requirements and mechanisms in place to facilitate both the receipt of, and the processing of, these claims. Where possible passengers should adhere to the requirements set out by their air carrier in order to ensure that claims are dealt with as expeditiously as possible. A brief summary of the requirements of the four main Irish air carriers is set out below.

Ryanair
Ryanair have developed two online (and downloadable) forms to facilitate passenger requests resulting from the disruption caused by the volcanic ash cloud. Those passengers who wish to claim a refund of the cost of a cancelled flight should complete the carrier's "Refund Application Form" which can be accessed by clicking here.

Passengers seeking reimbursement of those expenses incurred after their original flight was cancelled and whilst they were waiting on an alternative flight with Ryanair should complete the "Claim Application Form" which can be accessed by clicking here.

Those passengers who opt to download the above forms, and who wish to send them in hard copy to the air carrier together with the relevant supporting documentation, should fax them to the following number; 00 353 1812 1663.

Ryanair advises that whilst copy receipts may be initally submitted by passengers in support of their claims, sight of the originals may be required before claims for reimbursement are finalised.

Aer Lingus
Passengers seeking to obtain either a refund of the cost of a cancelled flight or reimbursement of those expenses incurred whilst waiting on an alternative flight with the air carrier should forward their claim, together with the relevant supporting documentation, to the following address:

Co. Dublin.

Aer Lingus advises that it requires original receipts in order to process claims for reimbursement of expenses. It is therefore recommended that passengers retain copies of all receipts for their own records.
