IAA Expects 150,000 Spectators to Attend 3 Spectacular Air Shows in July

14th July 2015: The Irish Aviation Authority is proud to support three incredible air shows that are taking place across the country this July.  These spectacular events are set to attract over 150,000 spectators.

All three air shows will feature displays by the Irish Historic Flight Foundation’s three de Havilland Chipmunks. Supported by the IAA, the Irish Historic Flight Foundation was established to give recognition to Ireland’s important role in aviation over the years. The Irish Historic Flight Foundation’s overall objectives are to help preserve Ireland’s aviation heritage, maintain key skills, educate the public and foster industry co-operation.  For more information, visit www.irishhistoricflight.com/

Irish Aviation Authority, Chief Executive, Eamonn Brennan said ‘The IAA is thrilled to support these incredible air shows and we expect over 150,000 spectators to attend these three events over the course of two weekends. Ireland has a fine tradition of aviation and these air shows celebrate our proud heritage.  I’m especially pleased to see the Irish Historic Flight Foundation take part in these events. The Foundation was created to showcase our aviation tradition and what better way to do that than by seeing these magnificent machines in action.’


 

Shannon Air Display

Saturday 18th July, 11am

Shannon Airport will deliver an air display extravaganza on 18th July to mark the 70th anniversary of the first commercial transatlantic flight at the airport, a key milestone in Irish aviation history. The air show will provide a visual treat from some of Ireland and Europe’s leading aerobatics performers, parachutists, helicopters, jet fighters and stunt fliers during the six hour event. Participating aircraft include, a supersonic Saab Viggen, two de Havilland Vampires and the Ravens aerobatic team. This family fun event will also include a wide array of free activities on the ground.

Bray Air Display

Sunday 19th July, 2pm

The Bray Air Display will feature a stunning line up of awesome aircraft. These include a Soviet era MIG – 15, a Hawker Hunter jet fighter and the F-5 Tiger aircraft of the Swiss Air Force Aerobatic Team. The Defence Forces Parachute Display Team, the Black Knights, will also perform a spectacular sky dive.

Foynes Air Show

Sunday 26th July, 3pm

Now into its second year, the Foynes Air Show will feature a fantastic line up of aircraft, including the ‘Ferocious Frankie’ World War 2 era P-51 Mustang fighter, the Team Raven aerobatic display team and various Irish Air Corps aircraft. The Irish Coast Guard will also perform a thrilling search and rescue demonstration over the Shannon Estuary. Foynes has a strong aviation history and was the landing port for the first transatlantic services, during the Flying Boat era of the late 30’s and early 40’s.
