Air Traffic at Irish State Airports Climbs 10% in September

10 October 2014: Total air traffic at the Irish State airports climbed a robust 10% in September, when compared to the same month last year.

Individually, the September 2014 figures for the three State airports, when compared to the same month last year, are:

  • Dublin up 9.4%, with an average of 545 daily commercial movements.
  • Cork down 4.6%, with an average of 59 commercial daily movements.
  • Shannon up 29.9% with an average of 75 commercial daily movements.

On a cumulative basis, commercial terminal traffic for Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports for the period January to September 2014 was up by 6.1% when compared to the same period in 2013.

Further to this encouraging performance, the figures for Ireland’s en route traffic (flights that pass through Irish airspace but do not land) and North Atlantic Communications (Europe / North America) also saw strong growth in September.

There was an increase of 7.5% in Ireland’s en route traffic movements during September 2014, in comparison to September 2013, one of the strongest performances this year. On a cumulative basis, the growth in en route traffic movements for the period January-September 2014, compared to the same period last year, was 1.2%. In total, there were 28,284 en route traffic movements in September.

North Atlantic Communications flights saw an increase of 6.4% in September 2014, when compared to September 2013. On a cumulative basis, the growth in North Atlantic Communications flights for the period January-September 2014 was 4.3%, when compared to the same period last year. In total, there were 38,262 North Atlantic Communications flights in September.

Total flights in Irish airspace have increased by 6.8% when compared to September 2013. There was an average of 1,664 daily flights during September 2014, with the busiest day being 5th September with 1,833 flights in Irish airspace.
