Air Traffic at Dublin Up for Fourth Consecutive Month

Air traffic at Dublin Airport continues to grow, with commercial terminal flights up 3.9% in June. This is the fourth consecutive month in which growth at Dublin has been recorded. Air traffic was also up at Shannon, with commercial terminal flights up 1% in June.

In total, international arrivals and departures at Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports increased by 2.5% in June 2013, when compared to June 2012. On a cumulative basis, commercial terminal traffic for Shannon, Dublin and Cork airports for January to June 2013 was up by 1.0%, compared to the same period in 2012. Cork recorded negative growth of 6.1%.

Total flights in Irish airspace increased by 0.1%, when compared to June 2012. There was an average of 1,634 daily flights during June 2013. The busiest day was 12th June with 1,843 flights in Irish airspace.

There was a decrease of 1.7% in Ireland’s en-route traffic movements (flights that pass through Irish airspace but do not land) during June 2013, in comparison to June 2012. However, North Atlantic Communications flights (Europe/North America) saw an increase of 3.9% in June 2013, when compared to June 2012. On a cumulative basis, the decline in en-route traffic movements and North Atlantic Communications flights for January to June 2013, compared to the same period last year, was 2.30% and 1%, respectively.

A EUROCONTROL analysis of data for the June 2013, shows that five of Ireland’s Top Ten ‘Airport Pairs’ (from a billing perspective) showed growth (or neutral growth), when compared to June 2012. The most significant growth was for Dublin – Birmingham (+38.4%), London/Gatwick – Dublin (+17.9%) and London/Heathrow – Dublin (+12.4%).
