The Importance of Securing the Cabin when Severe Turbulance is Expected

On 18 October 2011, a Boeing 777-300 encountered severe turbulence westbound over the Bay of Bengal. Two occupants, one a member of the cabin crew and the other a passenger, sustained severe injuries and 12 other occupants sustained minor injuries. The subsequent Investigation noted that the severe weather encountered was evident well in advance and could have been avoided.
