Bray, 23 July, 2017 – A wonderful weekend in aviation culminated in Bray this evening, with over 170,000 people having attended the Bray Air Show and Foynes Air Display as part of the 2017 Aviation Ireland weekend with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) as the main supporter.

The Aviation Ireland weekend is now one of Europe’s biggest air spectaculars and helps the IAA raise the profile of aviation industry in Ireland. Attendees at the two speculator coastal locations of Foynes and Bray, were treated to incredible aerial acrobatics and dazzling displays of precision perfect-manoeuvres from some of the world’s most accomplished aerobatic display teams, as Ireland’s east and west coast combined to celebrate the country’s strong connections with the aviation industry.

Over the course of the weekend over 40 aircraft took to the skies including; the Spanish Air Force – F-18 Jet, the Royal Jordanian Falcons, the Norwegian MiG-15, DC-3 in Aer Lingus livery, the Irish Historic Flight Foundation, Gerry Humphreys - Ireland’s beloved “flying farmer”, the Norwegian Vampire Jets, the Fougas, the Blades – a display team of former Red Arrow pilots, and the Swedish Air Historic Flight team.

Speaking at the Foynes Air Show on Saturday afternoon, Taoiseach Varadkar said, "I was delighted to be back in Foynes for the 4th annual air show. This airshow is the largest ever held along the west coast of Ireland is the perfect way to celebrate the rich aviation history of Foynes and its location on the Wild Atlantic Way. The air show is a great event and I thoroughly enjoyed what was a spectacular display,  I look forward to seeing the expanded Foynes Flying Boat museum and the Air Show continue to play a major role in the future of tourism in the Shannon region."

Speaking at the weekend, Eamonn Brennan, Chief Executive of the Irish Aviation Authority said:

The Bray Display and the Foynes Airshow have been a phenomenal success over the last number of years. Aviation is a hugely important economic driver for our country and this year under the IAA’s “Aviation Ireland” weekend we supported these two spectacular air shows making this year a particularly special one for fans of aviation across Ireland. We see this as a great way to raise the profile of aviation in Ireland and to generate an interest in our industry.”

Foynes Air Show took place on Saturday 22 July and the Bray Air Display took place on Saturday 22 July and Sunday 23 July.
