The IAA has won the ‘Public Sector ICT Project of the Year’ Award at the ICT Excellence Awards 2013. The award is in recognition of the new Integrated Record and Replay System, which records and replays voice, screen and data interactions between air traffic controllers and pilots.

The system enhances safety by precisely documenting and synchronising all of the communications channels that Irish air traffic controllers use when guiding flights through Irish airspace and was implemented in partnership with specialist network and application performance management company, Data Edge. The system is one of the most significant air traffic control ICT projects in Europe this year.

Speaking at the awards event in Dublin, the chairman of the judging panel commented on the IAA project’s ‘pioneering nature…which raises the bar for the rest of the European air traffic control sector’

Philip Hughes, IAA Director of Technology and Training said: ‘Winning the ICT Excellence Award is a great recognition of the IAA’ commitment to  innovative new technologies that enhance safety and efficiency’.
