Airspace Closures and Restrictions Concerning Iraq, Libya and Ukraine
Monday, 11 August 2014: The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued Safety Information Bulletins concerning Iraq, Libya, and Ukraine. Details of these Bulletins can be accessed below:
Iraq
Taking into consideration the armed conflict in Iraq a potentially hazardous situation may exist and thus a series of notices to airmen (NOTAMs) affecting the territory and airspace of Iraq have been issued.
The Agency draws the aviation community’s attention to information that indicates the existence of risks to the safety of international civil flights and the consequent airspace restrictions implemented. Aircraft operators flight planning in this region should exercise caution.

Libya
Taking into consideration the recent escalation of violence and the attacks on Tripoli airport, in which infrastructure was damaged and made unserviceable, a series of notices to airmen (NOTAMs) affecting the TRIPOLI (HLLL) Flight Information Region (FIR) have been issued by EASA.
The Agency draws the aviation community’s attention to information that indicates the existence of serious risks to the safety of international civil flights and the consequent airspace restrictions implemented. Aircraft operators’ flight planning in this region should exercise caution.

Ukraine
The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) published a Safety Information Bulletin (SIB), taking into consideration the reported loss of flight MH17 in Eastern Ukraine.
Through this SIB, EASA strongly recommends the National Aviation Authorities of the EASA Member States to inform all aircraft operators to give careful attention to Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) and information addressing airspace and routes modifications concerning this region.
In particular, EASA and EUROCONTROL Network Manager, strongly recommend airspace users to avoid the restricted areas affecting the Simferopol (UKFV) and Dnepropetrovsk (UKDV) FIR and circumnavigate using available alternative routings. SIB 2014-10 on the Simferopol Flight Information Region issued in April, remains valid.
