Aeronautical Charting Providers

This regulatory requirement of Charting Providers (S No.016) spells out the standards and requirements that charting providers in Ireland are required to comply with pertaining to the planning and operation of charting services. The charts published in the Irish AIP are produced in accordance with the provisions contained in the ICAO Annex 4 - Aeronautical Charts. The minimum standards set satisfy the need for uniformity and consistency in the provision of charts that is required in international civil aviation. Aerodrome charts shall, additionally, be provided in accordance with the Standards contained in Chapters 3 and 13 of the current edition of Annex 4 to the Convention. Other additional charts as may be required by the Authority in respect of such aerodromes shall be furnished in accordance with the Standards of the appropriate chapters of that Annex (Aeronautical Notice Series T No.003).

Validation of Aeronautical Charts

Air Navigation Services Division (ANSD) is part of the Safety Regulation Division (SRD). It formulates policy, validates charts and approves the publication of charts into the Irish AIP. This is done in line with ICAO Annex 4. All charts submitted to ANSD shall be AIP ready for publication in accordance with ‘Guidance Material on Validation of Charts' (ASAM No.012). Once the charts have been received, the services provider will be advised of the planned sign-off date and the target AIRAC effective date for promulgation of the charts.

VFR Chart Scale 1:500,000

The Irish Aviation Authority has produced a visual flight rules (VFR) aeronautical chart Scale 1:500,000. This chart is for VFR navigation within the boundaries of the Shannon FIR.

VFR Chart Scale 1:250,000

The Irish Aviation Authority has produced a visual flight rules (VFR) aeronautical chart Scale 1:250,000. It comprises four charts, on two sheets of paper, covering the Shannon FIR. The chart is for VFR navigation within the boundaries of the Shannon FIR.
