The main grades recruited by the Authority are Air Traffic Controllers, Engineers, Aeronautical Inspectors, Aeronautical Officers and clerical staff.

Details of the qualifications required for these positions are as follows:

Air Traffic Controller

An Air Traffic Controller is responsible for the safe, orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic on and in the vicinity of airports and in the airspace for which Ireland is responsible.

Air Traffic Controllers are recruited through our Student Controller Programme and applicants must be at least 19 years of age.  They must also have passed at least five subjects in the Leaving Certificate including Mathematics with Grade C in at least two higher level papers or hold a comparable award at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ).

Engineers are responsibible for the operational maintenance and accuracy of the ground based telecommunications systems, navigation aids, radars and computer networks provided by the Authority for the safety and regulation of air traffic. Applicants should hold a degree in Eletronic / Electrical Telecommunication Engineering or Computer Systems or a comparable disipline. Experience of first line maintenance in the following areas is desirable: data communiactions, computer networks, radio communications, navigation systems, surrveilance systems or M.V. power distributions systems.

Radio Officers

Radio Officers perform operational duties appropriate to the provision by the Authority of Aeronautical Mobile, Fixed and Broadcast Communications services to international aviation. Radio Officers are based in Ballygirreen, Co. Clare.

Applicants must have passed at least five subjects in the Leaving Certificate (Mathematics essential) with a minimum of f Grade C in at least two higher level papers. An equivalent Second Level qualification is acceptable or an equivalent or higher level Third Level qualification is also acceptable provided that the applicant has passed Mathematics.

English language proficiency is essential.
