An ‘Aeronautical Information Service' is defined as "a service established within the defined area of coverage responsible for the provision of aeronautical information and data necessary for the safety, regularity, and efficiency of air navigation". [EC Regulation 549/2004]
Applicable Standards
The operation and maintenance of Aeronautical Information Services in Ireland is subject to a number of ICAO, EC and Irish Regulations, Standards and Recommended practices. Relevant legislation includes:
- ICAO Annex 15 to the convention on International Civil Aviation, (Aeronautical Information Services).
- ICAO publications .
- Single European Sky legislation which covers the essential elements for a seamless European Air Traffic Management System together with Commission Regulation 1035/2011 which lays down common requirements for the provision of air navigation services and specific requirements for the provision of an aeronautical information service.
The provision of Aeronautical Information Services in Ireland in subject to initial National Supervisory Authority (NSA) certification and ongoing oversight in accordance with EC Single European Sky Legislation.
