The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) has published its annual report and financial statements for 2023. The IAA reported turnover in 2023 was €91 million and profit after tax was €0.7 million.

The re-organisation of the company had an effect on all operating aspects of the company, such as overall assets and staffing levels, when the air navigation functions of the IAA transferred to a new separate commercial, semi-state company, the Irish Air Navigation Service DAC trading as AirNav Ireland.

The IAA’s safety regulatory and security oversight responsibilities were delivered in an effective and professional manner in 2023. The IAA also provided a robust level of consumer protection and economic regulation, supporting the Irish civil aviation industry and passengers in 2023. 

Speaking at the IAA AGM held today, Ms Rose Hynes, Chair of the IAA said: 

“2023 saw a significant amount of change in the organisation, including a new Board and the merger of new regulatory functions. This major change project created significant challenges for the organisation but did not distract from the IAA delivering its core civil aviation safety, security and economic regulatory functions.”

Financial and organisational stability were an important priority for the Board and the Company throughout 2023, Ms. Hynes stated:

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the IAA Board and thank all those who helped make the re-organisation a success. Finally, I would like to wish former IAA CEO, Peter Kearney, his staff and the Board of AirNav Ireland continued success with their new organisation.”

Irish Aviation Authority Chief Executive, Declan Fitzpatrick said: 

“The IAA committed to ensuring that the separation and merger was completed in an efficient and effective manner without impacting on the core safety, security and economic regulatory functions of the IAA. This was a significant project for the IAA, and its success is a testament to the dedication of the IAA staff. Despite the challenges of restructuring the organisation, the IAA continuously provided best-in-class certification, regulatory oversight and compliance services.

The IAA remains committed to being a strong voice on the international stage for effective civil aviation regulation for the benefit of Ireland, whilst meeting the challenges of continued growth in the sector.”
