The main grades recruited by the Authority are Air Traffic Controllers, Engineers, Aeronautical Inspectors, Aeronautical Officers, Data Assistants and clerical staff.
Details of the qualifications required for these positions are as follows:
An Air Traffic Controller is responsible for the safe , orderly and expeditious movement of air traffic on and in the vicinity of airports and in the airspace for which Ireland is responsible.
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and have passed at least five subjects in the Leaving Certificate (including English and Mathematics) with Grade C in at least two higher level papers. An equivalent qualification may also be acceptable.
Aeronautical Inspectors provide specialised aeronautical inspection and assessment of aircraft, aircraft maintenance organisations and other aviation organisations.
Applicants should have a good general education and have completed a recognised apprenticeship in aircraft engineering and hold an ICAO Category II licence for at least 6 years. Applicants should also have had experience at a supervisory or management level in an aviation company or have experience in the management and development of aircraft maintenance programmes.
Aeronautical Officers are employed in the Safety Regulation Division where their duties include safety over sight of Irish Air Operators Certificate holders, assessing the competence of applicants for an Air Operator Certificate and the appointment of Type Rating Instructors And Examiners.
As a minimum you will need:
Data Assistants are recruited for both Operational and Training areas in the Authority. The duties of a Data Assistant involve flight data processing in accordance with Air Traffic Control instructions and assisting in the training of Air Traffic Controllers and other staff.
Applicants should have a good general education and be familiar with modern PC operations and have basic keyboard skills.
Administrative staff are employed mainly in the headquarters of the Irish Aviation Authority, Dublin in Corporate Affairs, Finance and Human Resources Divisions. Applicants should have a good general education and have basic PC skills.
