About IAA

Welcome to the Irish Aviation Authority

The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) is a commercial state-sponsored company which was established on 1 January 1994 to provide air navigation services in Irish-controlled airspace, and to regulate safety standards within the Irish civil aviation industry through:

  • Certifying and registering aircraft airworthiness
  • Licensing personnel and organisations involved in aircraft maintenance
  • Licensing pilots, air traffic controllers and aerodromes
  • Approving and monitoring air carrier operating standards.

Internationally-set safety standards emanating from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO); European Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA); EUROCONTROL; the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Union (EU) guide the IAA in ensuring that Irish civil aviation operates to the most stringent safety standards.

The IAA also utilises its expansive skill set to provide:

  • Technical training: domestically, at its own purpose-built training centre, and internationally at customers' locations;
  • Aviation consultancy services worldwide.

Locations

We operate from the following locations:

  • Corporate Headquarters, The Times Buildfing, 11-12 D'Olier St., Dublin 2;
  • Air Traffic Control Centres at Dublin, Shannon and Cork Airports, and Ballycasey, Co. Clare;
  • Aeronautical Communications Centre, Ballygirreen, Co. Clare;
  • Training and Consultancy, Ballycasey, Co. Clare.

Quality Management

The IAA has developed a structured business management system using the E.N. ISO 9001:2000 Model. Using this system, measurable objectives are set, staff training and competencies are ensured, and our processes are measured and continuously improved. The Authority is focused on ensuring the quality of the provision of our services and is continuously looking at the effectiveness of our process and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Having made the transition from E.N. ISO 9002:1994 to E.N. ISO 9001:2000 the Authority has been accredited to the new standard and regularly undergoes surveillance audits. These are carried out by our accreditation body, the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), to ensure the effectiveness of our Business Management System.

The IAA remains one of the few European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSP) that are certified to E.N. ISO 9001:2000 for all their operations. The Authority contributes to the Eurocontrol Excellence Policy Group (XPG) and the North European Safety & Quality Management Forum (NSQ).

The management and staff of the IAA are committed to ensuring the provision of Air Navigation Services and Safety Regulation, which fully meet the requirements of our customers and regulated clients. It is our aim to become world class in the aviation sector by setting and achieving the highest standards of excellence in the services we provide.
