CLASSIC AIRCRAFT AND AEROBATIC CLUB OF IRELAND

The Classic Aeroplane & Aerobatic Club of Ireland (CAAC) was founded in 1985 to foster and promote the sport of aerobatics, and the restoration and maintenance of classic and vintage aircraft in Ireland.

In 1989 the IAA (then the Department of Communications) granted CAAC a special approval so that they could accept recommendations regarding the issue and renewal of permits to fly in respect to classic aeroplanes of an approved design and such other specific aeroplane as agreed.

CAAC are responsible for the oversight of all Classic and Aerobatic aircraft under their control.

They are approved to make recommendations to the IAA for the issue and replacement of Permits to Fly.

The CAAC Procedures manual defines the organisation and procedures, upon which, the IAA approval is based.

Owners should make applications for the issue or replacement of a Permit to Fly for Classic and Aerobatic aircraft to the CAAC.

CAAC inspectors undertake the annual inspection of their aircraft and make recommendations to the IAA for the Permit issue/renewal.

They also liaise with the IAA regarding the re-registration of aircraft, the replacement of documentation and modifications carried out on aircraft.
